2020 School Tax Increase
1) Concerns about the Economy/ the county
I support Abington schools and hope that we can continue to provide the best education possible for our students, especially during this crisis.
However, in this time of unprecedented economic uncertainty, it would be harmful to me personally and the community in general to impose a tax increase. To date, over 1.5 million Pennsylvanians have filed for unemployment as a result of COVID-19 and non-life sustaining businesses in Montgomery County remain closed with no clear end in sight.
This is a time when everyone is having to tighten their own personal budgets, I would hope the school district could do the same – and make changes that do not require a tax increase.
2) Laid off
I support Abington schools and hope that we can continue to provide the best education possible for our students, especially during this crisis.
However, as a result of the effects of job closures as a result of COVID-19, individuals in my household have been laid off. Like the over 1.5 million other Pennsylvanians who have filed for unemployment, I am concerned about how to pay my own bills and how to find employment, which is uncertain at best as non-life sustaining businesses in Montgomery County remain closed with no clear end in sight.
This is a time when everyone is having to tighten their own personal budgets, I would hope the school district could do the same – and make changes that do not require a tax increase.
3) Have taken a pay cut
I support Abington schools and hope that we can continue to provide the best education possible for our students, especially during this crisis.
However, as a result of the effects of COVID-19, I have been forced to take a pay cut. Like millions of other Pennsylvanians my employment situation is uncertain at best as non-life sustaining businesses in Montgomery County remain closed with no clear end in sight.
This is a time when everyone is having to tighten their own personal budgets, I would hope the school district could do the same – and make changes that do not require a tax increase.
4) Fixed Income
I support Abington schools and hope that we can continue to provide the best education possible for our students, especially during this crisis.
However, I am on a fixed income and any tax increase affects me deeply – even a small increase, which may only equal the cost of a cup of Starbucks, can have a significant impact on me. While we continue to see the effects of COVID-19 rip through the county and state and it would be detrimental to me personally and the community in general to impose a tax increase.
This is a time when everyone is having to tighten their own personal budgets, I would hope the school district could do the same – and make changes that do not require a tax increase.
