Jocelyn Pickford – Candidate for Abington School Director

About Me

I am a 12-year resident of Abington’s Ward 11 and member of the Abington School Board. I am the mother of two Abington school children and a proud product of public education.

My Experience

With a background in communications, research, and advocacy, I have spent the past 20 years in education focusing on student-centered policy, community input, and coalition building. For the past 7 years, I have served our school district as a volunteer and I deeply understand the opportunities and potential within our community.

  • Abington School Board Member since 2019
  • Member of District Superintendent’s Committees (Bullying
  • Prevention, District Comprehensive Plan, Equitable Practices,
  • Fall 2020 Reopening of Schools, Reconfigured Grade Spans)
  • Highland PTO Member since 2014
  • M.Ed and Teacher Certification: The George Washington
  • University, Washington, DC
  • B.A., English: Trinity College, CT

Why I’m Running

I want to continue representing diverse perspectives on our School Board so that decisions consider the wide range of ideas and needs across Abington and Rockledge. I am advocating for 5-day, in-person learning for Fall 2021 with a virtual option. I believe we need personalized support for students and families to meet them where they are and to provide the best, most equitable education for all. With significant new COVID relief funding coming to Abington School District, I also support strategic spending that matches student needs.
